We've been busy...

I think it's safe to say that Rob and I can be committed to a crazy house now. Or maybe it's not necessary because our house has become a crazy house! The past 2 weeks have been filled with non-stop calling, mailing, and running around like chickens with our heads cut off. After lots of hard work, many surprises, and an unmeasureable frustration our upcoming move is finally starting to come together.

Since I haven't been posting reguarly lately (and because I am watching the USA game!) I'll share our past couple of weeks in pictures:

Before the FIFA world championship officially began, we, like most every other Dutch person painted our street orange with oh-so-tacky-but-yet-so-fun flags. And just to be fair, everytime the US play stars and stripes can also be found on our street!

       While our neighbours were over bbq-ing, I taught them how to make smores

 They were, of course, a big hit!

Max enjoyed playing on the cardboard from the couches in our backyard....

...And we enjoyed burning it later!

 We watched some crazy Dutch people parade through our street

We went to watch the Dutch play in Breda with Michel

And I was the only one NOT to spill beer all over myself!

We enjoyed an amazing night out on the town with some good company!

Opendagen

Every year the Royal Netherlands Air Force hosts a weekend called the "opendagen" or open days. These two days are packed with air shows from all different types of airplanes/ helicopters from air forces all over the world.

This year the open days were hosted by our home base, Gilze-Rijen. Friday morning we packed our car up and went to check out this year's events. Luckily Rob didn't have to work at the show so we made a nice family day out of it with Oma and Opa.

Max was sporting his new flight suit with Papa's badges. He even had his own name badge with wings! (What can I say, the kid has got connections! ha!)

Despite the chilly wind and rain, we sat out on the grass and enjoyed some of the shows. This year the apache helicopter showed off with its new demo. The Dutch are the only people in the world to have an apache demo, and even though helicopters can't break sound barriers, it was pretty awesome to see the apache do dives and flips just like a fixed wing!

How to Steal an Apple 101

1. Make sure nobody is watching

2. Be very sneaky and discreet in front of the camera

3. Make sure you aren't caught sticky handed

6. Double check the camera to make sure Mommy really can't see throught it

7. Take a moment to enjoy  your stolen apple

8. Clean up any evidence

Hey Everyone,


It's me, Lucas. Mom says that I turned 6 months today. She thinks that's a big milestone and worthy enough to blog about, so I'll tell you what I've been up to lately. 


Mom also says I've turned into a really sweet baby. Apparently I cried and spit up the first 4 months and it drove my parents a bit crazy. They obviously do not understand how difficult this baby stuff is. I even wish I came with a manual sometimes! 


Most of the day I still spend sleeping, drinking, and um...you know.... in my diaper. But now that I am older I am also enjoying other things such as:

Sitting like a big boy in my stroller

Working on getting this crawling thing down

And even though I am sometimes tackled by my loving big brother,

Who apparently thinks he also turned 6 months today,

I sure do love being pushed by him in his my swing!

Ok folks, a bottle is being put in front my nose so I'm outta here :)

It's raining...

...Couches?! (not only couches, but actual rain, because since my last post we have made it back to a not-so-sunny Holland!)


This past January, after many hours of walking through furniture stores with crying and whining children, we found the perfect couch. As we ordered the couch I was quite shocked to hear that it would take +/- 3 months until it could be delivered! And today, after 6 long months of waiting, my perfect couch made its abrupt arrival into our living room. 


Why do I say abrupt you might ask? Because no more than 10 minutes after I opened my door at 8.30 this morning, 2 delivery men had literally dumped 6 pieces of our couch into the living room before they were gone again. So there I stood, sleepy-eyed with a cup of tea in my hand, bedazzled by the sight before me. 

After I snapped out of my bedazlement (my own word) I decided to get to work. 2 hours later I: 

learned some German

Made an even bigger mess

Realized that a large portion of the couch will not fit into our tiny living room

Had to remind myself that someone is coming tomorrow to pick up our 2 old couches currently standing in our kitchen.

And remembered how comfortable and perfect our couch is, despite the fact that my German isn't good enough to figure out how I'm supposed to connect them! ha!

Now I'm going to go enjoy my couch before the movers come and take it away from me in a few weeks!

Tomorrow we head back to Holland for about 7 weeks. Our agendas are filled with appointments, lots of packing,  more appointments, and course we will have to squeeze in some time to watch the World Championship soccer games and enjoy time with family and friends! :)
